Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Holist (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use the Holist Chrome extension and related websites (collectively, the “Service”). Holist helps you set daily goals, run Pomodoro focus sessions, and build gentle wellness habits from your new tab page.

Summary

• Google sign-in is optional. If you use it, we receive your basic Google profile (name and email).

Information we collect

Data stored locally on your device

Holist stores the following in chrome.storage on your browser so the extension can work offline and remember your preferences:

• Daily goals, habits, and completion status
• Pomodoro timer settings, session history, streaks, and insights
• Lifestyle tracking you enter (for example water, movement, sleep notes)
• Theme, palette, sidebar, music, and other UI preferences
• Site-blocking settings and your list of blocked sites (if you enable this feature)
• Search engine preference and onboarding state
• Session-only data such as active reminders and nudges

This data is not transmitted to our servers unless a feature below explicitly says otherwise.

Google account information (optional)

If you choose Sign in with Google, Holist uses Google OAuth through Chrome’s Identity API to read your basic profile: your name, email address, and profile image URL. We use this only to show your account in the app and associate your local Holist data with your profile on this device. Google sign-in is not required to use Holist’s core features.

Anonymous usage analytics (optional)

If analytics are enabled in the build you installed, Holist may send anonymous usage events to PostHog (for example which panels you open or upgrade prompts you see). Analytics use a random identifier created on your device. We do not send your name, email, goals, or browsing history to PostHog. If no analytics key is configured in the extension build, analytics are disabled entirely.

Feedback you submit (optional)

If you send feedback through the in-app form, Holist transmits the information you provide — typically your name, email address, subject, message, and any screenshots you attach — to EmailJS so it can be delivered to our support inbox. Large screenshots may be uploaded temporarily to third-party file hosts (0x0.st or Litterbox) with links included in the feedback email. Do not include sensitive personal information unless necessary.

Content and pages you interact with

Depending on features you enable, Holist may interact with websites as follows:

• Site blocking (optional): If enabled, Holist blocks navigation to sites on your personal block list using Chrome’s declarative network request rules. Your block list is stored locally. We do not receive a log of sites you visit.
• Search and AI assist: When you search from the new tab page, your query may be opened in the search engine or AI service you select (for example Google). Those services handle your query under their own privacy policies.
• Quotes and backgrounds: Holist may fetch inspirational quotes and optional background images from public APIs (such as Quotable, ZenQuotes, or Unsplash). These requests do not include your personal information.
• Lifestyle nudges: A small on-page widget may appear on sites you visit if you enable lifestyle reminders. It does not read or transmit page content to us.

How we use information

We use information only to:

• Provide Holist’s stated single purpose: daily goals, Pomodoro focus, and related wellness features
• Remember your settings and progress on your device
• Authenticate you when you optionally sign in with Google
• Respond to feedback you choose to send
• Measure anonymous product usage and reliability when analytics are enabled
• Maintain, secure, and improve the extension

We do not use your information for advertising, credit decisions, or unrelated profiling.

How we share information

We share information only with service providers that help operate specific features you use:

• Google — optional OAuth sign-in and profile lookup
• PostHog — optional anonymous analytics
• EmailJS — optional feedback delivery
• 0x0.st / Litterbox — optional temporary screenshot hosting for feedback
• Quote and image providers — public content requests (no personal data)

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect users and the Service from fraud or abuse.

Google user data — Limited Use disclosure

Holist’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:

• We use Google user data only to provide or improve Holist’s user-facing features (such as showing your signed-in profile).
• We do not transfer Google user data to third parties except as necessary to provide or improve Holist, comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with your consent.
• We do not use Google user data for serving advertisements.
• We do not allow humans to read Google user data except with your consent, for security purposes, to comply with law, or in aggregated, anonymized form for internal operations.

Data retention

• Local Holist data remains on your device until you clear extension storage, uninstall Holist, or reset your data in the app.
• Google sign-in tokens remain on your device until you sign out or remove the extension.
• Analytics are processed by PostHog according to their retention settings.
• Feedback emails are retained in our support inbox only as long as needed to respond and improve the product.
• Temporary screenshot uploads expire according to each host’s policies (often within hours or days).

Your choices and controls

• Use Holist without signing in to Google.
• Sign out of Google at any time from Holist account settings.
• Disable site blocking, lifestyle nudges, and other optional features in settings.
• Clear or reset your local data by uninstalling the extension or clearing Holist storage in Chrome.
• Choose not to submit feedback, or omit your email when contacting us.
• Contact us to request deletion of feedback you previously sent to our support inbox.

Security

We transmit data to third-party services over HTTPS. Because most Holist data stays in your browser, you should also keep your device and Google account secure. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Children

Holist is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

International users

If you use Holist from outside your home country, your information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate (including the United States). Those providers maintain their own compliance programs.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the extension or on this page. Continued use of Holist after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
